The Queensland Government Building Boost has been extended by three months.
The $10,000 offer was originally scheduled to stop on January 31 2012 after launching in August 2011. Deputy Premier and Treasurer Andrew Fraser said the grant had delivered increased activity for the building sector.
“So far we've seen over 3700 applications for the Building Boost,” he said.
“There is obviously room within the budget allocation to accommodate the uptake in interest we expect over the next three months.”
The money is available to people purchasing or building a new home under $600,000.
He said the decision to extend the deadline came after increased pressure from the housing industry.
“They've said to me... that the Boost is increasingly gaining traction with potential buyers,'” he said.
Halfway through the Qld Govt's six-month, $10,000 Building Boost program for home buyers, only $3.8m worth of grants have been handed out from a $140m budget.
THE battle for new-home buyers is hotting up on the Sunshine Coast, with builders offering all sorts of deals to encourage people to choose them.
“Official interest rates have been lowered in recent months, and with the possibility of even more cuts, this $10,000 grant for buying or building a new home means it's never been more attractive to sign on the dotted line and support the state's housing industry.'”
However, Master Builders executive director Graham Cuthbert said recovery in the housing industry is still slow with building approvals down 50 per cent from November 2007.
“Continued stimulus is essential for a sustained recovery for an industry that is the key economic driver in Queensland and provides an additional four jobs for every job created on a construction site,'” he said.
